Welcome to the website of the Department of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery, Yokohama City University School of Medicine
Our surgical departments at the university will undergo a major transformation starting in fiscal year 2026. We will be reorganized into a five-department system: "Cardiovascular Surgery," "Respiratory Surgery," "Breast and Endocrine Surgery," "Gastrointestinal Surgery," and our own "Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery." Through this reorganization, we will provide higher quality medical care, education, and research in our respective specialized fields.

The Three Pillars: Medical Care, Research, and Education
Our Department of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery focuses on the following three main activities:
- Advanced Surgical Treatment: For intractable cancers in the hepato-biliary-pancreatic field, we actively introduce minimally invasive and precise surgeries, including robotic surgery (da Vinci), to provide treatment aimed at a cure while reducing the physical burden on patients.
- World-Class Research: We emphasize research to solve clinical challenges and questions, conducting basic and clinical research. We contribute to the advancement of medicine through active information dissemination both domestically and internationally.
- Nurturing the Next Generation of Surgeons: Through a comprehensive specialized surgical training program, we train young surgeons equipped with advanced skills and ethics, and strongly support the active participation of female physicians.

Our specialized team has extensive experience in high-difficulty surgeries such as liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, biliary tract cancer, and liver transplantation. We will work together with each patient to consider the best treatment options.
